Want to apply for Austria’s RWR+ Card but unsure if your income is high enough?
You’re not alone — income requirements for the Red-White-Red Card Plus (RWR+) can be confusing and stressful. That’s why we built something completely new: the RWR+ Calculator.
It’s the first and only tool that lets you check, in just a few clicks, whether your income and savings meet the legal threshold — and it’s 100% free.
Why income matters for the RWR+ Card
To receive the RWR+ Card, you need to prove that you can support yourself — and your family — without relying on Austrian social benefits. This is especially important for Ukrainians switching from the Blue Card in 2025, but applies to everyone.
What makes it tricky? The rules are more complex than they look. You need to include:
- Your salary (calculated using Austria’s 14-pay system)
- Other income sources
- Verifiable savings
- And deduct certain major expenses
The RWR+ Calculator makes it easy!
Minimum income requirements – monthly and yearly
To qualify, your net monthly income must meet or exceed these legal minimums:
- Single person: € 1,273.99
- Couple: € 2,009.85
- Per child: +€ 196.57
💡 “Net” means after taxes and social contributions.
What counts as income?
The good news: income isn’t just salary. These sources can also be counted, if properly documented:
- Salary from employment or self-employment
- Pensions
- Regular support payments (e.g. from a spouse abroad)
- Austrian family benefits (Familienbeihilfe)
💡 You’ll need to prove these with pay slips, bank statements, or official letters.
What about savings?
Savings can fill the gap if your income is too low. Accepted forms include:
- Money in your savings account
- Life insurance with a payout value
- Savings from abroad (with documentation)
These are divided by 12 to calculate their monthly contribution to your total income.
How to calculate your income - step by step
Austria uses a special system with 14 annual payments. Here’s how to do it:
- Net salary × 14 ÷ 12
- Add other stable income
- Add savings ÷ 12
- Subtract major fixed expenses (but only if they are more than €323.73 per month)
✅ If your result is above the legal threshold — you qualify!
❌ If not, you need to increase your income or show more savings.
